Who’s Solving This Problem?

Today I provide you with two charts on the global food industry.

Global Food Industry - Meat Consumption

You’ll notice that from 1991 (not that long ago for most of us) till 2025 (just around the corner) the global meat consumption more than doubles.

People in emerging markets are entering the middle class, and one of the first things they spend money on is a different food source.

At the same time, the world is rapidly realizing that eating things that come with a face also comes with some associated problems, not the least of which is a myriad of health problems.

Red Meat Health Risks

Whether you eat meat or not is not my bent here. Of course, I do want you to be healthy so you can continue reading my missives but this isn’t a health site.

What is interesting is the market reaction to this information and what emerging trends are taking place in the global food industry as a result.

I recently spoke with Chris Kerr, investment manager at New Crop Capital, on this very topic and recorded the call for your enjoyment. New Crop is a private venture capital fund providing early stage investments to companies that develop cultured and plant-based meat, dairy and egg products.

I would encourage you to check out what Chris and his team at New Crop Capital are doing.
